Linkages
[Blogging support staff (i.e., DH) taking dictation from CorgiMom. There was an apparent malfunction of some unknown kind, and another very long post was lost into the cyber abyss. DH will now attempt to recreate from verbal direction]
I switched... something about how I switched over to MS Windows so that I could have a link-laden post, and when I was almost done, my post disappeared. Today my mom ordered a sweater pattern for me to knit for her. It is being sent to my house. That means I will spend way too much time tracking it and experience the drama of frustration followed by ecstasy when it arrives. [Dogs making play rough-housing noises.] Ready? I offered to knit a sweater for my mom last winter, um... she has finally decided which one, or which two to select. I think she waited this long, and then I had like 1, 2, 3 [oh, you mean like this?] 1) Mom wanted me to increase my knitting skill before I knit her a sweater, 2) She wanted to be confident of achieving a good looking product so she wouldn't have to wear an ugly sweater so I would feel good, 3) She wanted me, possibly, to be able to save some money for potential spending and decided to buy a sweater kit so I can keep on knitting through my yarn abstinence. You ready? [Yes.]
Next paragraph! The sweater I am knitting for Mom is this. Now highlight "this" [oh, wait, that's an instruction. I'm supposed to click on the green "bull like" picture on the bar - just a second.] Currently I am knitting this. And I want to knit this, this, this and this. I am also going to knit another capelet made of Orangina Divine.
The ice cream event was at Izzy's, results from the voting are here.
Next paragraph! I am still working on my thesis. You will here this probably until September, unless I get done earlier. Currently,
Whoops, that's a new paragraph. This... has been made by my DH downstairs. I am waiting for it. [It should be ready soon] I hope it will be delightful. Today, my husband [that's me] called me and sent me here to get a free Caribou Coffee Cooler - cool Light White Berry with Raspberry is my favorite. I am still working on my blue and light-green sock.
Today I went to the library and picked up two non-non-fiction books. My husband detected an absence of my reading fiction books and felt that I should.. what should we say [little chuckling, presumably at my typing whatever she's saying verbatim] add to my reading list. So I picked up two books today: The Secret Life of Bees and The Swallows of Kabul. I greatly appreciate my one-man blogging support staff [that's me!] and hope that he will continue to be faithful to me in this way in the future as I'm sure this dreadful occurrence will fall upon me again.

Bloomington, MN large turtle saved yesterday
Yesterday I was waiting at home after my session (I'm a therapist) for my honey to come home. At one point I checked my cell phone and he indeed had left a message. He said, "call me back and I will let you know why I am coming home late." I called, he didn't answer. All kinds of ideas were going through my head...what was he up to?
When he came home he said he'd done something that would make me proud. He had helped a turtle across the road. Yay for turtle rescues! He said it was a huge turtle, bigger than a frisbee. Not a snapper, though. His comments about his courageous endeavor are thus, "He was determined to get across the road- though he would not choose the path of safety- he wanted the fastest route."

Working on my thesis and finished capelet
I have been busy working on researching my thesis. I am using a previously written research paper examining the popularity of physical punishment methods in a variety of cultures. I have the task of adding to it with additional obtained sources- but I just can't decide where to start adding the rest in.
A good part of yesterday was spent working on the Spiderweb Capelet for a wedding I'm attending on Saturday. It's in a park, and I plan to wear a strapless dress, and the capelet has silver metal with black wool yarn. It looks dressy, and lacey in a web-like way.
Weasel has been weaseling her way into trouble. Recently I lost her in my parent's laundry room. I heard her little "Wuf, wuf" distressed back- but didn't see her. I looked all over, in the closet, the dog bed, and then behind the washer and dryer. She looked up at me with her dark brown corgi eyes, one ear smushed against the wall the other against the back of the washer. She had gotten herself stuck. Just like she did last night under the couch. I was the only one home at the time, but I was able to move the washer and dryer far enough for her to slip out. Then she was fine, and unfazed.
Last week I was using my deoderant which was almost gone, and some crumbled to the floor. Buster was watching and I was hoping he wouldn't eat it. He didn't. But he did dive at the floor repeatedly, rolling in the little bits the whole time. He was vigorously rubbing the side of his head on the floor and kicking his legs while laying on his back. I guess he wanted to smell fresh and pretty like a girl. Or, maybe he's telling us that he wants another bath!

Just a little bloggin'
Today marks my one week anniversary of my newly begun regular fitness program. It also marks successful fulfillment of about 30 min or exercise every other day. Yay!
It also marks the further development of my thesis, and it's appointment (by myself) with a fabulous title, "Disciplining Children in a World of Pampering and Neglect." And my new thesis advisor saying my stuff thus far looked really good.
Plus- I just got my third paper of the week done- which means I can go have fun until class at 6pm tonight. That's an accomplishment.
Oh- and in the knitting news_ I figured out how to pick up my short rowed stitches on the purlside by visiting google and then the blog, purlside.com.
But it's time to go shower, get ready for the day, go knit in public on my grape shapely tank and weekly knitting date with an academic colleague and faithful friend, then hang out with the in-laws in a day of fun-filled adventure.
Ciao and happy weekends and much productivity to everyone!

My yarn order is only 20 min away from my house!
What torture! I now know that my yarn that I ordered from Herrschner's is in a nearby city. I would drive there in a second if I knew I could get it. They don't reallly need to deliver it- no problem. Just get it into my hands! As soon as it is here I can start working on tank tops. Today is the perfect day to start too- a forecast of 83, and it's knitting time with my friend Leslie this morning.
Since I finished my Gloria, I too, like Wendy Knits have felt some PPD. Post project doldrums. I started a segment for charity for Warm up America, and am still working on my first linen washcloth, Mancala Mia from knitty, and my sock that was messed up since last Wednesday's SnB. It is unlike me to allow a mess-up to remain for such a long time, but last night was the first time I tried to fix it.
It also helps keep the knitting down when I am busy writing stuff for school. I completed some work on Tuesday, and brought it to the post office to weigh and mail. Last night I got another thing done (that was due yesterday, might I add). When I completed it at around 8:30pm I decided to walk it to our post office mailbox. First I checked at what time the sunsets 'cause I am scared of bats. I realized I had about 25 min so I set out with Buster to conquer the mission. We made it, safe and sound with no bats visible. Now today, I should be able to knit peacefully, knowing that the next thing I have due is a 4 page paper on Thusday. I should have plenty of time to whip that out.

I'm doing it again
I am dressed too warmly for the inside temperature of our home. And it is because I am enjoying my newly fixed and seriously revamped Gloria sweater. Yes, I have spent most all of my free time working on it- this whole week. But tonight it was unveiled and introduced into public through a special dinner at Singapore restaurant followed by Sonny's Ice Cream spent with my parents, DH, and my visiting bro.
On the drive to the restaurant I was furiously weaving in yarn tails while seated in the middle of the back seat. I was trying not to get carsick with over concentration yet I desperately wanted to wear my sweater. As we sat down at the table I noticed a long blue string hanging from the underside of my right sleeve. Ooops. I was trying to get by weaving in the minimum of tails but I missed one. Once the tasty dumplings and roti arrived I forget about the bothersome and aesthetically unappealing tail. Good food can do that for you.
So my grandiose fix-it plan worked. The folded under fronts add extra structure to the sweater making it look more like a fitted jacket than a cardigan. The seed stitch edge allowed me to have a decorative edging when I had to fold the garter stitch edging under to make the sweater more fitted. All in all it ended up yielding a sweater that looks made especially for me, a one of a kind no doubt. It's uniqueness is further enhanced by having manipulated the pattern and using two different yarns than those the pattern used. It made this sweater considerably more affordable to knit with kujaku I purchased at 50% off instead of the pricier Silk Garden, and Cascade 220 instead of Cashmerino.

stash enhancement
I just took the plunge and bought enough Patons Fresco tape yarn for 3 new tank tops. One will be the shapely tank by www.whiteliesdesign.com, and another the Fresco tank by Patons. Just today I confessed to my dear friend Elzbieta that I might end up wearing this particular Fresco tank every day of the summer-unless I had another one. This spurred some internet research leading to sadness due to Fresco's discontinuation. Boo. But then- I found Fresco for sale for $1.97/skein. OOOH! I might of gone overboard but I prefer to consider my impulsive decision reasonable as the tank is easy, fast, and I already made it once and think I can improve on it since last year's version 1.0.
The Gloria story is another story. I was very much saddened (there's a theme here) when I realized my cardigan wasn't quite what I wanted it to be. Yes, it looked beautiful knit up and all, with it's changing vibrant colors and "caterpillars" but the sleeves hung too low, causing the shoulders to fall below my actual shoulders. Plus- the width of my cardigan fronts ended up being about 6 inches wider than me. This couldn't be. Thanks to Beth from Beth's blue blog for an inspiration, and hope that I could salvage it by using a button and giving it an i-cord loop. Thanks also to my Mom whose suggestion involves more work than Beth's but I think it will make the sweater closer to that of the model. This fixing involves taking out the sleeve seams and the under-sleeve seams and picking up stitches along the cast-off edge of the cardigan. I tried and rescued one sleeve today with happiness as the result. Tomorrow the plan is to fix the other, and then get to work on folding over both exposed edges of the cardigan about 4 inches each, sewing them to the under-side, and then picking up stitches again to create a new decorative edge on the cardigan. Whew. Exhausting to read about, yet I know it will be worth all the work to make it into what I want.

A new pet
On Saturday dh presented me with a new pet with a semi-voracious appetite. It was a Grasshog. He got it at Menard's. Lest you freak out and lecture me about having 2 dogs already I will assure you that this is an independent pet, and mom, you will not need to watch it for us if we go out of town. It is a battery-powered weed whipper. I was excited to use it but had to wait for it to charge overnight. Then, the next day I tried it out, and wore it out too, until the battery died. Afterwards both my arms were so tired and over-used that I could barely hold onto a glass of limeade that I was trying to drink.
We had some friends over Sunday night, and had greek food that we made and played Conga. Conga is made by the makers of the game Cranium, which I love, but I think this game goes too fast. A person could play about 4 games of Conga in the time it takes to play Cranium once.
Tomorrow is SnB. I am looking forward to it a lot. I am using it to motivate me to get some schoolwork done. I told dh that I do'nt remember what happened to my weekend. Then I remembered that I was in class all day saturday. Yup. That's what happened. So I feel as though I am trying to catch up on the missed relaxing that could have been last Saturday.
I sewed the sleeves on GLORIA yesterday, and sewed half the side seam. I hope to get it all sewn together today and then I could weave in tails for the next few days. My goal has been to finish this sweater by the last day of my current class which means this Thurs. evening. I think I can.
Then I will be a sort-of free person. Granted that I currently have 2 homework tasks to complete, and will have another once class is done Thursday, but all my month-long classes will be done. Amazing. I've been in school since Montessori. I cannot fathom freedom.

G-L-O-R-I-A!
Tonight I was freaking out 'cause I thought I was going to run out of my blue yarn. I was brainstorming all kinds of options that excluded purchasing an additional skein of blue yarn. As I kept knitting, well, after walking the dogs with dh, eating catfish, and popping weeds in the yard, I realized that I don't need the blue yarn for the picked up stitches around the collar. The Noro was going to go there. This was the point that I decided that I could consider a Noro collar for an option- obviously prior to reading all the directions for the pattern.
So I kept on knitting, and eventually it was time to bind off the two fronts. But, alas, I was going to test my knitting skills by trying something new. Enter the Three needle bind off. It was like magic. Elegant, timeless, and virtually seamless, the two rows of 18 sts each came together like they were meant to be. Ooh la la. These babies demand a pic.
Prior to all this knitting flurry I did indeed begin my new role. Dressed in my best professional clothes and having ingested a small Caribou zebra mocha, I visualized myself succeeding at this new task. It went even better than I had expected. I was having a coming of age moment, though it was more a coming of career and knitting success day. DH rewarded my behavior by making dutch cocoa chocolate syrup. Yumm-o. I just had a half a glass of chocolate milk. I would have drank more but all that lactose might adversely affect my lungs. I know that I sure have been coughing away today despite taking my prescribed drugs.

Diagnosis and new adventure begins
Well, I went to the Dr. and was told that my right lung sounds fine, but my left lung sounds "pretty junky"- and that I have walking pneumonia. So I got myself some Zithromax and am hoping for all that to go away soon.
Yesterday I knit most of the rest of my morning after going to the Dr. and have been making progress on the fronts of my gloria sweater. I just hope they aren't too wide.
Today I am starting my new work role- I am very excited and a little nervous. I did have a really positive dream about it on Sunday night though. So we'll see what happens.

Bunny rescue and coyote sighting
On the way to our small group dh and I saw 2 beautiful mammals- not deer, not red foxes, probably not wolves, but possibly coyotes. They bounded through a nearby field as we watched in awe.
On the way back from our small group dh and I saw a bunny limping across the road. My heart breaks when I see hurt animals or dogs loose on freeways or major roads, and my heart was breaking after seeing the bunny. Dh acted fast and pulled the car over to the shoulder, jumped out and caught the hurt rabbit. Conveniently we had a dog crate in the back seat and he placed the bunny in it. We drove to the animal emergency clinic- they said they couldn't do anything for it. Then I called Roseville's Animal Rehabilitation clinic. I was saddened to have to leave a message, but my call was returned quickly. The staff there agreed to stay late to take in our hurt bunny. So we dropped it off after saying some bunny prayers for healing and survival. The receptionist gave me a magnet in exchange for the bunny. It has a baby fox on it. It looks a lot like Genevieve. I intend to e-mail them and and check on its prognosis.
On a sadder note, Amy of the blog "Knit Think" is being faced with some hard decisions about their rescued King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Teddy. He has developed cirrhosis of the liver. Poor doggie baby. Send him some doggie prayers for health, too.
And, as long as the uncertainty is continuing- I think I will be going to the Dr. tomorrow for analysisof my long-lasting cough, and the newly developed pain (hopefully just a muscle strain) under my ribcage. I'm scared to go for a number of reasons- one of them being fear of the unknown, and another related to not wanting to take drugs of any sort. I just don't like side effects and often a illness seems milder than a drug's side effects. I've been trying to knit my way to wellness- but it just hasn't worked yet.

Fabulous anniversary!
I got my hair done at Aveda, we ate at Tiburon, desserted at Muddy Paws, and then my husband surprised me by having our wedding video and honeymoon of Victoria, Australia videos turned into dvd's. These dvd's were then viewed at a special showing for the two of us- at dh's office on their big screen. It was a very memorable evening. Prior to that I had peeky-toe crab cakes, Mango bbq marlin (fish), added my own rum (as in a tsp.- no I'm not kidding) to a mojito, and dh had Lobster tacos. The big draw of Tiburon is their 65 ft aquarium that regretfully was not teeming with aquatic fish. Sad, yes, and a main reason for our selection of the restaurant, but we were told a bacteria was taking over the fish and they were dying, the tank was being cleaned, and that all new fish were arriving on Friday. Of course, just in time for the weekend out-to-eaters. Maybe I'll have to stop by just to see them sometime. Despite that letdown we had a wonderful time together.
The reason for the updo was why should a woman only look her best on her wedding day? It does not have to be all downhill, as in dressing down, from there. No- I didn't put my beautiful wedding dress back on, but I did wear a cute springy dress that made me feel like I should be in a much warmer place. And of course I wore my sexy sandals that I purchased in Santa Clara, CA. We are looking forward to spending much more time together, since dh is the best. :)
Ooh- I had a big meeting today. It went well. I am moving on in my career to more challenging work that is a lot more demanding. I have an adventure ahead, but don't we all. And congrats to my bro who has given his whole summer over to GIS work. I know he'll do a great job.
One more thing. My gloria sweater fronts have been frogged- I ripped or ribbited out 11 inches of the 12 inches I had completed since oops, I forgot to do the decreases. It wasn't that paintful to rip out the 120 rows of work- I want it to be just right, and was wondering why there wasn't any shaping happening to the cardigan fronts. I figured they must just hang big and wide. I was wrong, oops. I think I'll go knit some more since I feel behind now. My goal for it is to be done by my last day of class, May 26th.

Buster is jealous of Genevieve's hygiene
Currently I am holding a wet, albeit clean puppy-for the second time today. We came back from our night out and her crate was wet. Ewww. That means she's the recipient of a bath. Buster is dissapointed that she's been gettting all doggie bath's at our house. On our walk today Buster lost all his manners and was pulling on the leash and trying to chase cars. Troy and I decided it was because he was jealous of the pup's bathing time. He hadn't had a bath for over a month. Usually he gets a bath every month but with the new pup in the house it threw off our schedule. Whenever there is a noise in the bathroom Buster runs over to check things out. I took a lavender sea salt bath today and he was by my side (outside the tub) the whole time. Now dh has decided to indulge him, especially since the Weasel's gotten 2 baths today alone! This should help curb some of the jealousy for awhile. He definitely can't be jealous of her getting her nails trimmed more often. Last week it was manicure/pedicure time for the corgis and I clipped all their nails in the backyard. Although come to think of it I do think that Geneweasel's ears are bigger than Buster's...

Congrats to us!
DH and I are 2 years old today! That means that we are having fun all day, and going out to eat, and I am going to the Aveda Institute to get my hair done.

Felted koala, Lucky Charms and Sheep and Wool fest
Last night I finished my second sleeve. It's as lovely as the first. I finished before midnight, and thus I just met my personal goal of 1 week= 1 sleeve. I was hungry and we don't have much in the way of snack foods so I settled on a bowl of Lucky Charms. When you eat Lucky Charms after midnight a weird phenomenon happens. It was like the marshmallows in the box of cereal had multiplied since my breakfast. Every bite I took had marshmallows- and I got down to the last 2 bites and there were 10 marshmallows and only a few pieces of actual cereal. I figured I may as well just eaten a couple teaspoonfuls of sugar instead.
Today I gave into my urges and went to Borealis Yarns- and bought yarn for my felted koala bag. I found a pattern for a felted koala so I plan to manipulate it into the koala in my imagination and then attach it to a felted bag. I am very excited about this idea. The progress will probably be slow, but steady as I am still working on my gloria sweater and some spring socks. I got a tweedy gray and a solid gray, along with some light gray mohair for a fuzzy koala. I plan to swatch it today- and felt it perhaps.
I am also excited about the sheep and wool fest. I have no idea what to expect- but I do expect it to blow my mind...and hopefully not my budget. Although, my Mom is having a garage sale now, and my husband agreed that the money we earn there will go to me to repay me for my dragonfly picture, so that could mean yarn money...I have a weakness for hand-painted stuff...

Hitchhiker's knitting
DH and I just returned from "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I won't spoil it for anyone, but I do have to say that there was a knitted scene. An entire knitted scene. Not a scene or split second moment of a person knitting, but a scene that featured actual knitted "people" while sitting in a knitted spaceship interior space. It was pretty cool. I wonder if it was actually knitted, or if it was computer graphics work. Hmm...what do you think all you Douglas Adams fans? I know you are out there lurking around...

May I be excused, my brain is full.
Whew. What a whirlwind of a weekend. Thursday evening I saw Miss Congeniality 2 with Elzbieta. It was pretty fun, full of fashion designer name-dropping and trendy clothes. The longer I sat in the theater though, the colder I felt. The next morning I had to cancel an important meeting since I woke up feeling awful. I knew I had a whole weekend of class to look forward to and decided to sleep most of the day. I didn't knit at all, that's how icky I felt. Fortunately dh was a dear and took the little weasel to work so I only had to watch over Buster who attended to my needs by sleeping under my bed.
Now, after a Friday evening, full Saturday and a full enough Sunday worth of class I am home and vegging. I have plenty of things to do for tomorrow but it's time to relax, watch tv/movies/ and of course, knit till I fall asleep.
This morning I was a little out of it and found myself driving past IKEA instead of school- on my way to school. Ooops. I chalked it up as a "Freudian slip" which is not at all the type of psychological view that I hold to, but one that nearly everyone is familiar with. I am not Freudian. I am Adlerian. Freud and Adler were in the same crowd for awhile till Adler found Freud to be too deterministic. Ok- I think I'll go knit now before Adlerian lecture 101...I do have to say with great joy that this was my last FULL WEEKEND of classes! I will have 3 more Saturdays of class, 2 Fridays, and 4 Thursdays before I acheive doneness.
Oh- and next weekend is the Sheep and Wool fest!

Dear Genevieve,
We love you a lot, and you are really cute. We especially enjoy cuddling with you during those rare moments that you are still. We are trying to do our best with you to teach you how to use the outdoors as your potty area. We are not sure why you want to do your business both inside our lovely home, and outside. We are requesting that from now on you only use the outdoors for your needs.
Your mom is doing her best by taking you out to the bathroom nearly every half hour. In fact, it was only yesterday that you chose to poop on the carpet in the doorway of the study, and that was just minutes after you'd been outside for that express purpose. An Elzbieta is our witness as she saw your mom quickly scoop you up to bring you back outside to finish.
Don't worry, we're not mad at you, but we would really appreciate it if you could hold yourself together until you get outside. We are just getting a little tired of cleaning up your messes.
Oh, and if you could take a nap every now and then, that would be a good thing.
Sincerely and with great love,
Corgimom and Corgidad

At last a sleeve! and gratuitous poo pic
Thanks for the support and kind thoughts regarding the death of my Great Grandma. After a day at a conference on Anxiety and Differentiation of self aka Bowen Systems theory- dh, Genevieve and I went to IA for the funeral. We arrived late but my db (dear brother) a KU student was up to greet us- and get my in trouble. Just like old times as I was the one caught, reprimanded, and scolded by my Mom who was supposed to be sleeping in a room nearby. She shushed me a couple times- but hey, I was having fun with my bro, and I don't see him often. I figured it was worth it to have a few laughs with him- hey, how come I'm the one who gets caught?! ALL The TIME! The saga continues- as I will always be the *oldest* child. Sigh.
Well, last night Weasel gave us a good laugh, too. In a naughty fashion. She pooped on my husband's guitar case. It wasn't like she was jealous of it, he hadn't played it since she's been here until tonight, but I think it was still a protest to us for taking her "mountain" away. Dad, are you sure you don't want to donate your little black suitcase to us for the entertainment of our insatiable puppy? The poop was so well-placed that despite the apparent lack of good taste in posting such an exclusive inside moment I just had to include it. Hope it makes you chuckle.
On the sleeve note- I am uber excited- like I don't know that I used that word wrong- or did I? To go to EP knitting tomorrow. There I will engage in some furious sleeve knitting as I follow my own pattern for a perfectly fitted Gloria sleeve and chat with some fun people ( no, I will not mention what we talked about last week!) All I can say is that I was glad I didn't live in that area- and that I won't accidently run into any of the coffee shop customers elsewhere, but that the convo is a rollicking good time, keeps me coming back for more...later girls:)

Genevieve's first check-up
She had her first visit to the our vet this morning. The vet said that she was "very brave". She received an "A" so that's good news. After the vet trip we visited PetSmart for some appropriate vet-suggested chew toys, so now she has cheese and BBQ chicken flavored edible Nylabones. Of course she'd rather chew on my birkenstocks! She had a great time at the store saying hi to everyone there, except the big yellow lab which made her want to run away- and the Rottweiler puppy who was scared of her!
On the knitting scene- I will be taking a needle-felted gnomes class at the Sheep and Wool festival in Lake Elmo. I am looking forward to it since I really love gnomes-like the Amelie gnome and the Travelocity gnome, and learning new techniques.
Also- I have been knitting on my Gloria/Noro cardigan sleeves. I completely redid one of them after trying to add the increases in the middles of the sleeves rather than at the end per the directions. This resulted in bumps on the 2 middle parts of the sleeves on each increase row. I began the new sleeve, and began the decreases for the sleeve cap only to realize that it was too short for my arm. So that part was frogged- and I have begun the decreases again. From my armpit to my wrist is a whopping 22 inches! I have some seriously long arms which wouldn't be a problem if I could only figure out how long to knit my sleeves! I remember a time in high school where the science teacher said about me "Imagine her arms on little Jessica." Little Jessica was about 3/4 as tall as me, and very fine boned- which I'm not. My arms would be like ape arms the science teacher said. I know that was to illustrate a point about our body being well-proportioned by design in science class- but I will never forget the awkward looking image in my head!

A tribute to Great Grandma Tena and Grandma Martha
She died on early Tuesday morning in her sleep. She was 101 years old. Last year I crocheted my first scarf for her in teal and purple- she loved vibrant colors as much as me- and I gave it to her at her 100th b-day party. I have lots of fond memories of her including eating lots of cookies at her house, exploring her attic, and when she tried to teach me to knit when I was little. She was an avid knitter and crocheter- and I have no idea how many afghans she turned out, only that there were many made. I have one from her that is a black granny squares afghan with all multicolored squares.
I wrote a song in memory of her on April 19th it refers to her dying in her sleep and waking up to a new life. It also applies very well to my dear Grandma Martha who died on May 14th- just 4 days after our wedding in 2003. God bless them both. They were friends, and neighbors- and they can know hang out together in the heavens as they watch over us.
Here it is:
You woke up in the heavens
Far above the sky.
And you heard the Father say,
"Well done, well done"
When you woke up in the heavens.
You woke up in the heavens,
The sun's rays extended down to earth
To lift you high- far- above the sky.
'Cause you woke up in the heavens.
Your time on earth is done,
But eternity's just begun-
Since you woke up in the heavens.
Where there's love,
Where there's peace
Your time in heaven will never cease,
Since you woke up in the heavens.

When nap time's the best time of the day...
For two days in a row the dogs have taken nap time simultaneously. It's a beautiful thing when the furkids tire and the knitting can come out and I can watch 30 Min meals on the TIVO without barking.
Today I got a bit of housework done- I did most of it yesterday- and of course, tended to the puppy's needs. She has a new game where she chews on a thick cardboard tag that is still attached to the duffle bag we had to buy in CA to haul back my text books to MN. This was needed since we were billed extra for our luggage since it was 15 lbs over. I'll blame that on my books- not all the shoes that one must bring while traveling. The game part happens when she tries to entice Buster to check out the duffle bag as she uses it much like a time out base while playing doggie tag. Buster tried to figure out what was so special about that bag, but couldn't unlock the secret. Yesterday during a particularly thrilling game Genevieve jumped off her suitcase mountain and DH reported having seen a piece of poo go flying! We knew it was hers, since Buster's trained. now does that count for an accident, or not? I think she was just moving too fast for too long, and it just flew out of her!

A no accident day!
Yesterday was our first no potty/poo accidents day! Yippee!
Saturday we were watching Saturday Night Live and I was talking to DH about how well the day went- with no a-c-c-i-d-e-n-t-s. Yes- I actually spelled it out- and then she had one. She pooped in her crate. We were doing so well!
This weather has been marvelous. It is absolutely perfect outside now. The birds are singing the dogs are playing...
I even had a moment of peace this morning when both my dog and my puppy slept for about an hour. Otherwise my days have been filled with busyness. Bring the puppy out, supervise the puppy, bring the puppy out...let the dog out...
My knitting has been discouraging. I am trying to alter the Noro sleeves so that they shape my arms instead of how the pattern was written. Like my purple sweater these sleeves are going to be knit 2 oe 3 times before they are finally done.
have a lovely spring day!

McDuster & Genie-weasel
Genevieve is my blogging assistant today. She is now nibbling my capri pants and squirming. She is adapting to our house quite well, and Buster has taken to his big brother role with fervor. He is more than willing to notify us with barks if it becomes apparent that Genevieve's needs aren't being met immediately. Kind of like, "Hey you- she's barking. She wants to play, NOW!" .
She has been alternating between calm angel-like dog and a pooper. Yesterday I was bringing her to my office to show off amd she was in the crate in the back seat. I was driving along and suddenly smelled a horrendous smell. It was coming from the back seat. Yuck! We stopped at Petco to investigate. Lo and behold she had pooped in her crate. Not only that but then she'd walked in it, thoroughly dirtying her little puppy paws. We went into our local Petco's grooming section. Two girls were grooming dogs. They greeted us and asked if we had an appointment. Hello, no, we don't have an appointment. I said all this with flat emotion. I told them about our housebreaking emergency, and asked if she could get rinsed off somewhere. The groomers were very kind and offered their sink, and clean towels, and all this for free. I thanked them profusely, and we went on our way to my work, only about 10 minutes away.
There, she was exhausted from the excitement of the spray-down and after a short time of exploring and walking around she settled into my lap and napped while I did my work. From that point on she was out, and a little limp rag doll puppy. She slept on her back in my lap with white belly exposed, and charmed and distracted all my coworkers.
The Conference
It was a really good conf. albeit cold. It was the Child and Adolescent Mental Health conf. in Duluth. On Sunday we left the 70-degree temperatures of our part of the city to head up north to the 30-40 degree weather. Brrr. While I was there I saw some people I knew from an art therapy internship of mine, drank 2 coffee drinks a day, and knitted through most workshops. I made a good amount of progress on my Noro sleeves- I started knitting them at the same time, and then decided to focus on one sleeve to get it just right before finishing the next.
I have also been busy working on a surprise gift for someone. Today it will be revealed- after I finish the last 12 rows of it and binding off.

And now for something completely different...
Namely, nothing. Or rather, the absence of something. That being new stuff. See, lest you continue to think that nothing is happening at our house, I've been instructed to post for my traveling bride - she is currently in Duluth attending a conference, and will most likely be out of blogging range until the latter half of the week.
Little did I know the trouble I would cause that one fateful night at the computer as my wife was reading her favorite knitting blogs and me casually mentioning "You know, hon, you could do that too if you wanted..."

You probably think nothing's happening at our house...
Well, you're wrong. There is a lot going on here! On Thursday morning I felt like a daycare provider, trying to meet the needs of my older "child" while taking care of the dependent puppy's needs. I was exhausted at the end of the day!
My friend Beth reminded me that I need to spend some special time with the older dog and make sure to give him treats so he feels acknowledged and like he still belongs.
So on Thursday while the little pup was sleeping I took Buster on a fast jaunt to the post office to mail a letter for another conference that I am attending this month on Bowenian family systems. He seemed to really enjoy the time that was all about him, and not his puppy sister.
I am learning, I think, what it is like to be parents of an only child- and then to introduce a new baby into the house. Wow. What great lessons provided by fast-growing fur friends.
The cutest thing happened yesterday. Besides the fact that Buster and Genevieve (wow that's a long name for a 5 lb. pup!) love to play together, Geneweasel- a new nickname for her since she likes to weasel out of my arms to go play and run- shared her "cookie" with Buster. She was in the IKEA kitchen chewing on a Scooby Snack right near the doggy gate where Buster watched on with concern. She broke it in half and shoved half of it under the gate to Buster on the other side of the gate. Buster looked at me as if to ask "Can I eat it? She gave it to me?" And I said, "Go ahead.". So he happily ate it, and Genevieve ate her half. So cute. My corgis share!
Housebreaking is an adventure. I think I've brought the pup out 3 or 4 times today already. That doesn't include when Troy took her out at 4am.
Yes- I have been doing a little knitting despite all the dog care action here. I am working on my Noro sleeves. I adapted them- can I leave anything the way it's supposed to be on the pattern anymore? Rhetorical question. Of course not. Why should my sleeves be loose and sloppy when they could be fitted and contoured to my long arms?
Speaking of rhetorical questions. We watched this video called "FAT City" in class on Thursday night and it addressed a simulation of learning disabilities in a population of educators and others who work with children. One of the points that came up was the sarcasm that is used when a child doesn't get an answer right in school, and the use of rhetorical questions. The video said that the fastest way to get teachers to stop using rhetorical questions is for them to hear a student respond back to them. For instance, a teacher asks, " What part of no talking don't you understand?" The student replies, "the 'No' part". The class chuckles. Hmm. Do you think that teacher was very happy?! Well, from my experience my health teacher Mr. Grose was not happy with that answer when I gave it to him in seventh grade health class. Just a little sass to start your day. And to let you know that some rhetorical questions are better off staying where they originate- in your brain.
