Baby's 4 months old
I'm trying to line up his feet on the same stripe monthly to show his
growth. I'm typing with one hand since he is sleeping in my lap on my other
arm.

ear infection number one
He hasn't even been fussy, but I took him in to the DR.'s to have his lungs listened to. They're fine, but he has an ear infection. I had to give my baby medicine tonight- amoxicillin. He didn't like it and spit most of it out. It makes him smell like medicine. I can't wait till he can smell like my baby. I can see why people shouldn't touch wild baby animals, since their mom rejects them when they smell like humans. I want Noah to smell like Noah. Of course I have a super-sniffer so I'm sure I'm the only one who notices.
Note to everyone- stay away from my baby if your nose is running or you have a cough! This goes for kids and adults.
This will be a fun next 9 days while the medicine needs to run its course. And DH was home sick today.

wanted additional family members to help take care of my family
A week ago Sunday I was sick- and slept all day. I'm still getting over the nose-blowing phase of my cold. A few days before I got sick Noah had a cold, and now DH has lost his voice. Noah, too, is getting over the raspy chest and coughing phase. And now DH is going to bed early to try to get rid of whatever he has. I think Noah might be teething, too. He was spitting like a motorboat on Saturday, and vigorously shoving everything under the sun into his mouth. He's chewing on his fingers a lot.
Noah just slept for an hour and a half- and is now awake. I'm feeling tired already. I think I am in for it.
We just need all our family members here to get well at the same time- and then stay well for at least a few weeks. Is that too much to hope for? Oh, did I mention that Buster has an itchy belly from his fall allergies? Weaselpop is fine, and in sassy spirits. At least she's well.

a sad knitting story, grab the kleenexes
You know I have been knitting right? That's how I LOST my sock. I lost sock number one when I was 1/2 an inch away from completing sock number two. I called countless places to see if it had been found, and drove and walked around looking for the sock. I even prayed for the sock to miraculously appear, or for divine intervention to give me wisdom to find the sock. Like Mark Driscoll the Mars Hill pastor says, "God always answers pray with a yes, no or maybe."
I didn't find the sock. It was completely done, the tails even woven in ( a chore I dread). Good news is that Three Kittens Needle Arts (which is now cool and in the new part of Mendota Heights) said they had 1 skein. Just right for me. I got there and they found another skein. Then I found another on the shelf and bought 3 skeins of sock yarn- to knit 2 pairs of sock. Go figure. What a knitting tragedy. I haven't been motivated to finish the second sock since the wind went out of my sails but tomorrow at SnB Noah permitting, I will finish the cast off and weave in the tails and sock 2 will be done. Then all I have to do is cast on number one. Again.
Have any other knitters had this happen to them? Any tips for prevention? Other than not dragging my knitting everywhere I go. I thought about safety pinning the socks to each other, or keeping one at home in a safe place, and writing down the knitting measurements on the pattern so I don't have to compare the second sock to the first to complete it. Blah. I really don't want to cast on another toe-up all stockinette sock.
I guess I can be happy I found the yarn to make another one after calling 4 local yarn stores, and that it was at the store closest to my house. And that it was Regia instead of some luscious handpainted merino yarn like some others I have stashed. Not that Regia is bad, it's good since I can wash this kind and it is full of pretty spring colors like spring green and pink and blue. The irony is that I told DH I wanted 2 more skeins of it, since I wanted to knit another pair of socks from it. That was before the loss. Now I get to knit 1.5 pairs.
I decided that my sock is not actually lost, but a really grateful woman with one leg and a passion for colorful handknit socks found it, and is wearing it with pride. I'm right, right?

oopss
Wow- I tried to use technology to make my blogging easier. I really didn't mean to post the same post next to each pic of the Gingerbread House. I thought it would have sent as a batch with one blog entry. I know I, as the blogging author, have the capacity to delete those extra posts and save the pics, but I figured I'd just leave it. Maybe more of you will go to the Gingerbread House now:) It's in Rochester, MN, did I mention that yet?
And the reason why we're still up...
Baby just had to poo, and boy did he ever from the sounds of that. Time to
change him!
change him!
Gingerbread House bakery
This is so cool, I had to share it. I was in Rochester, MN to attend a
continuing ed workshop and was able to visit 2 sets our our newly re-located
friends. While I was there I stopped in at a friends' Dad's bakery, the
Gingerbread House. It was a really cute bakery filled with yummy things.
What really caught my eye was this, it is in the Guinness Book of World
Records for making and baking the World's Largest gingerbread man! It was so
cool to see pictures of the whole process. A family member knew how to make
cast iron molds and made a huge cookie cutter, and they baked the cookie in
stages. My friend made the dough for this big monster. And it cooked in this
oven. If you are anywhere near Rochester check it out and indulge yourself
in all their goodies. You won't regret it. And eat some cinnamon apple bread
for me. It's almost worth moving there. Almost.

Cuteness in the form of baby
The only thing cuter than his smile is his laugh- since it's a smile with
sound effects. But it's also cute to see his face go from relaxed
inquisitiveness to the gentle cracking of a smile. It melts my heart. :)

Baby's first, and second cold
He has a cold again. I feel like we just got him- he shouldn't have another
cold already! It seems like he just got over the last cold. Here's a pic of
him with his first cold. He looks so sad, having to sleep with a stuffy
nose. This time he is still congested a bit and has a cough like an old man
at times. Poor baby.
It's 5am now and he wasn't ready to go back to sleep, so here we are. He is
in his Kick n' Play bouncer, and I am at the keyboard. At least he's in
slow-motion as he plays. He must be tired, right?
Did I mention that he shared his cold with me? In the middle of the night on
Saturday I started to feel icky. I slept all day Sunday and had a terrible
headache. Today was much improved, but a good night's sleep would have been
nice still.

Giving up Grey's
Last week I watched the Grey's Anatomy season premiere with anticipation, albeit on Saturday morning instead of Thursday night. I was watching some of the Office on Thursday and at Caribou for the rest with my friend Elzbieta. There was live music there, by the way. It was an older gentleman playing saxaphone.
It was baby N's first exposure to the sax, and he seemed to like it well enough.
Hearing it brought back memories of junior high when I played my Grandma's silver sax for "my instrument." I remember the day when each of us students was called to the music individually, so that the 2 music teachers could help you select "your instrument." I guess it was mandatory to play something for a year at least, after having the year or two of the "recorder" the silly little beige plastic thing that could make wonderful squawking sounds when played by an early learner.
Anyway, back to Grey's. So, I watched it, and I watched my sleeping baby more. I realized that it had lost its luster for me. There's something about women liking women in that way, or all the promiscuity that makes me drop watching a show. I didn't like Will and Grace for the same reason. So, there's my rant. I also gave up "Three and a Half Men" since I got sick of the glorified promiscuity. I just don't need to be watching those kinds of things, when I have the best thing already. The endless baby show. I watched my belly hop around from here to there as he did somersaults in utero, and now having been pushed out into the big world, I still savor every moment of watching him. Whether he's sleeping with his little sleep smiles and squinty faces, or awake smiling, cooing, laughing or saying "ma" and "mom" it all is so much more enjoyable and special than any tv shows.
Got to go, the baby is crying for his milky.
