fav blog, da!, and parks and recreation?

I have a new favorite blog, I could spend all day there and never get bored, it's http://whipup.net/
It's a artsy diy blog that is comprised of great links other crafty and creative people have found then sent the link in to the blog. You can make everything from dresses, to Zeepuls, to a tea folder for packets of tea on the go, and today they had a post for a really cool wall calendar to organize your families goals and activities.

da! is Noah's name for pretty much everything. It is especially his word for "dog", but it applies to anything and everything at all times. Though he does occasionally say "Mom" and mamamama, and vavavavava.

Brings me to Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler's new, may I say, hit tv show. And it also brings us to our social calendar tonight featuring an engaging "discussion" at our city's council regional meeting. We went to our first such public meeting, and it was indeed reminiscent of those shown on Parks and Recreation. I kept thinking of when Amy said, "What I hear when I'm being yelled at is people caring loudly at me." in reference to the citizens yelling at her throughout her first meeting. This meeting was heated, and I considered removing my son from the tension since he can be sensitive to that kind of atmosphere, but we stuck it out. I thought it funny that there was free cookies, and coffee as if to placate us all before the event. The cool thing was that there were "beanie babies for the kids" according to the friendly Police chief there. Noah was the only kid there so he chose between a greay seal and a green dog. He picked the seal first, then the dog. So the dog one came home with us.

As the meeting got underway and people were caring loudly around us Dh tried to entertain our son. At one point it was my turn to busy him and we looked out the window of the park and saw a Da! cried Noah loudly. We turned our back to the group and even raised the shade of the wooden window blinds and watched a deer wander through the park . All the while Noah yelled and pointed, Da! Da! Da! Da! It was the highlight of the meeting for me. Shortly after that it was time to leave for Noah's bedtime, so we all left our first city meeting. Talk about socialization for a baby! and for us, too.

Well, we took these on the 19th, last week Tuesday. It is getting really
challenging to get him to stay centered on the blanket. I suppose it is just
in time for this monthly pic business to end, as he'll be 1 soon and I will
have to find another way to measure his growth.

not fully with-it yet

I had just typed up a long post- then cut it from the e-mail program with plans to paste it here. But, instead cut something else, then pasted that, losing all my text.

It must be time for a break-

summed up it said-
I started Liesl, a lace knit sweater last week, then ripped back to a too loose row to fix it, then tried it on and the armholes weren't deep enough, so I ripped out more, then kept ripping and started it over in the wide neck version- knit 10 rows of that and found I'd miscounted, so it's all ripped out again for the 2nd time today.

time to go eat the Lill's bars I made- rice krispie bars with PB and butterscotch and choc. "frosting...

I'll try blogging again some other time...

Goodies bought at the sheep and wool fest

I will be knitting the Owls sweater, with little cabled owls around the
yoke, and 3 pairs of socks!
I bought undyed naturally washable yarn for the sweater, the lady found that
a certain combination of wools from some of her sheeps just wouldn't felt.
She was mad at first, since she was really into felting. Then she got over
it and bred some sheep with non-felting wool.

This is my SIL's new house- we toured it last night. Noah took his first
steps there, in this very room. He wanted to play with the bulldog.

Watchout baby, the tiger might take your sippy cup!

I was a little freaked out by the new Tiger Lair at the MN zoo, I know the
glass is thick, but seriously- freaky to get that close to the tiger
anxiously pacing back and forth. Who knows what it is thinking about! Noah
was unfazed, you would think he sees tigers everyday with the way he acted.

Visiting the tulips

We went to see the tulips my Grandpa planted a few years ago. He died 3
years ago, but had started this really cool tulip garden a few years
earlier. My guess is that little straggler of the mini yellow tulip was
planted by him, and is one of the original bulbs. This year more were added
to replace the ones that were done flowering.

Well, today we started off at Cosi in Eden Prairie for knitting group,
followed by Noah's nap in the car on the way home. I took advantage of his
sleeping to use my "weed popper" to remove some dandelions till he woke up.
We came in and I did some vacuuming and even vacuumed out the drawer in the
stove. I don't know how it gets dirty and dusty- it's not like we cook with
it open! Since I was cleaning that out I decided to wash all the pots and
pans that go in there. Noah saw how much fun I was having washing out the
drawer that he promptly joined me by crawling into it to play.

Can't have enough baby sun hats

rainy rain day equals May flowers

It's been raining off and on. Good for our rain garden, bad for the gardener who wants to play in the dirt. It has meant flowers for us, whenever I come back from somewhere I slowly crawl up the driveway in my car and count the flowers. Saturday it was 9, tulips. Then Sunday, 11, dwarf bearded irises. Today it's 21 irises! They are so pretty. I am thinking I may have to do some dividing of them this year, I forget when they're supposed to be split.
I've been spending forever and a day knitting 1 pair of socks. First, I knit the first sock's heel flap too short, and not wide enough for my knitting pal's foot. So, rip it was. Then, I was working on the second sock instead of the first and got that done. Now, I'm onto the foot on the 1st sock again. I promise, I will finish them some day.
I also messed up the vest I am knitting in Berrocco Foliage greens and purples. It's knit from the bottom up and I messed up the increases on the front part. Maybe tomorrow at knitting they can straighten me out. Must be the combined sleep debt. I find that I also have been using the wrong words for things here and there. Like, I will tell DH where Noah's socks are, but I mean his shoes. Kind of frustrating. I just want to speak well! I chalk that up to sleep issues too.
Noah did only wake up 2 times last night- much better than the 3 or 4+ normally.

On Saturday we went to the Green Expo at the State Fairgrounds. DH was chagrined to see me acquire yet another reusable bag (he thinks we have enough, I say we could never have too many) well, I mean 3 more bags. I also bought some Snack Taxis as seen on Oprah as a plastic ziploc style replacement. I haven't used them yet, but I am excited to do so. They are fabric pouches that velcro shut, and can be machine or dishwasher washed. I also ran into a fellow blogger, there with her family.

Surfing the net I found this great book, Sewing Green. It has some patterns for skirts and "snack taxis" as well as slippers all out of repurposed fabrics. I'm pretty excited to make some skirts from the book.

Well, blogging was a welcome respite for writing my Curriculum Vitae. I had to write one to apply for being a provider for an employee assistance program.

In the baby world, we suspect molars are coming through in little Chippy's mouth. I christened him Chippy before he'd chipped his front tooth, but now it's going to stay. He and I now have the same tooth chipped. Poor buddy. We went to the dentist and they said they didn't want to do anything to make him cry. I thought that was a good call, because I was sure I'd cry if they held him down to sand it out. Instead, a nail file was suggested to use at home to smooth it out. I'd thought of that myself, and dismissed it as being too redneck. I did go ahead and gave it a try and it helped a bit. Unfortunately that was not before he "branded me" with his tooth imprint.
